あらすじ
大企業の社長として孤独を抱える松永徹、定年と同時に妻から離婚された室田精一、親を看取ったばかりのベテラン医師・古賀夏生。人生に疲れた三人が選んだのは、＜母＞の待つふるさとへの里帰りだった。囲炉裏端に並ぶ手料理や昔話——＜母＞と過ごす時間が、三人を少しずつ変えていく。
STORY
Toru Matsunaga, the lonely president of a major corporation; Seiichi Murota, whose wife leaves him just as he retires; and Natsuo Koga, a veteran doctor who has just seen her own parent through to the end of life. Tired of life, the three return to a hometown where a "Mother" is waiting for them. Homemade meals served around the hearth, old stories, and time spent with "Mother" slowly begin to change their lives.
解説
浅田次郎の最高傑作と名高い同名小説『母の待つ里』を映画化。主演を務めるのは、本作が出演125本目の記念作品となる国民的女優・吉永小百合。初めて挑む浅田次郎作品で、人生に疲れた三人の主人公たちを迎え入れる＜母＞ちよを演じる。監督は、『ブタがいた教室』『こんな夜更けにバナナかよ 愛しき実話』など、登場人物を魅力的に輝かせる作品を送り出し続けてきた前田哲。脚本は、『おくりびと』で第81回米アカデミー賞外国語映画賞に輝いた小山薫堂が、『湯道』以来3年ぶりに映画脚本を手がける。配給は東宝。日本の原風景、四季の移ろいとともに紡がれる＜こころのふるさと＞。心温まる物語は、2027年秋に公開予定。
INTRODUCTION
Based on Jiro Asada's novel of the same name widely regarded as his masterpiece, the film stars Sayuri Yoshinaga — one of Japan's most beloved, "national" actresses — in her 125th film role, and marks her first time taking on an Asada work. She plays Chiyo, the "Mother" who welcomes the three tired protagonists into her home. The film is directed by Tetsu Maeda known for consistently bringing out the most compelling, luminous qualities in his characters. The screenplay is written by Kundo Koyama, whose (Departures) won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards — this marks his first film screenplay in three years, since （YUDO）. Set against Japan's archetypal countryside and the changing of the four seasons, this is a story of the hometown of the heart. A heartwarming tale, it will be released in Fall 2027, distributed by TOHO.
