あらすじ

小さな市役所で働いている男・牧本。“空気が読めない”、“人の話を聞かない”、“誰にも心を開かない”という変わり者である。そんな牧本の市役所での仕事は、孤独死した人を自分が決めたルールで「おみおくりする（弔う）」ことだが、周囲には迷惑がられることのほうが多い。 ある日、牧本の向かいのアパートに住んでいた老人・蕪木（かぶらぎ）が孤独死する。牧本は、蕪木の部屋に遺されていたアルバムの写真を手がかりに蕪木の娘を探そうと、蕪木の友人や知人たちを訪ねていく。型破りだけど一本気で豪快に生きた蕪木の人生の軌跡を辿るうちに、牧本のそれまで無味だった日々がだんだん変わっていく。 そして、牧本の“迷惑な弔い”は、いつしか”牧本の無垢な気持ち”として周囲に伝わり、ある奇跡を起こすのだった。

STORY

Makimoto is a man who works in a rural City Hall. People think he’s weird as he “can’t take a hint” “doesn’t listen” “never open his heart to anyone”. His main responsibility in City Hall is to organize funerals for people found dead in the district alone, in his own way, which makes lots of trouble to people around him. One day, an old man Kaburagi, who lived directly across the apartment building from Makimoto, died alone. Inspecting Kaburagi’s apartment, Makimoto found a photo album. To be used as his sole lead, Makimoto starts to visit Kaburagi’s friends and acquaintances trying to find Kaburagi’s long lost daughter. By tracing the path of Kaburagi’s unconventional but colorful life, some changes happen in Makimoto’s lonely life. Someday, people start to take Makimoto’s work as his “kindness to deceased”, but not “troublesome funerals”, and one miracle happens…
