あらすじ

明治末期。雪雄は、大徳寺医院院長としての地位と名誉、そして若く美しい妻・りんに囲まれ、誰もが羨むような境遇にあった。ただ気掛かりは妻・りんが雪雄と出会う前に遭った大火事のせいで記憶喪失になっていることだった。ある日、一人で庭に出た雪雄を襲う影。ぎりぎりと首を絞めてくる男は、なんと自分と瓜二つの顔かたちをしていた。襲撃者・捨吉は、雪雄を井戸に投げ捨てると、何くわぬ顔で屋敷に戻る。 雪雄に成り済ます捨吉と、井戸の中で惨めに生き長らえる雪雄、そして２人の男の間で妖しく心揺れるりん…　やがて３人の忌わしい過去が明らかになる…

STORY

At the end of Meiji era, Yukio is content with his position as the director of Daitokuji Hospital, being married with a young and beautiful wife Rin. The only concern was Rin’s amnesia caused by the big fire which happened before Yukio met Rin. One day someone attacks Yukio in the garden. Surprisingly, the attacker has exactly the same facial features as Yukio. Sutekichi, the attacker throws Yukio into the well and goes into the house, pretending nothing happened. Sutekichi takes over Yukio’s life and Yukio strives in the well, wretched, while Rin wonders in mysterious manner between the two men. Then their unfortunate past gradually comes out…

「鉄男」「バレット・バレエ／BULLET BALLET」の監督・塚本晋也が江戸川乱歩の世界に初挑戦した"サイコ・サスペンスと和製ホラーの融合作品"。第５６回イタリア・ヴェネチア国際映画祭に正式招待されたのを始め、各国の国際映画祭から絶賛を浴び、韓国のプサン映画祭では観客賞を、スペインのカタロニア映画祭では音楽賞（石川忠）を、記念すべき第１回スイス・ヌシャテルファンタスティック映画祭ではコンペティショングランプリを受賞。国内でも主演を演じた本木雅弘が第１２回日刊スポーツ大賞、日本アカデミー賞で主演男優賞をＷ受賞した話題作。

INTRODUCTION

Shinya Tsukamoto, the director of “Testuo” and “Bullet Ballet” challenged to cinematize the world of Ranpo Edogawa and created a fusion of pysco-suspense and Japanese horror.　This film had an official invitation to the 56th Venice International Film Festiva in Italy and was highly praised at many other international film festivals. Won Audience award at Pusan international film festival, Music award (Tadashi Ishikawa) at Sitges Film Festival in Spain and Competiton Gran Prix at Neuchatel International Fantasy Film Festival. Masahiro Motoki, the leading actor won national awards such as Nikkan Sports Award and The Best Leading actor at Japan Academy Awards.
